How do you make a family memory book?

Gather stories from several family members over a few months (one question at a time works best), decide whether it is one person’s life story or a themed collection, choose thirty to forty of the strongest stories, pair each with a photo, and print it as a 6×9 hardcover.

How much does it cost to print a family book?

A print-on-demand 6×9 color hardcover of about 100 pages costs roughly $20 to $30 to make and ship in the US. Photo-book sites charge more. Story Grove includes one hardcover with every plan and extra copies are $39 (black-and-white) or $79 (color).

How many pages should a family memory book be?

Thirty to forty strong stories, which usually lands between 80 and 150 pages at 6×9, is a book people finish. Casewrap hardcovers need at least 24 pages; Story Grove pads to a 32-page minimum.

What is the difference between a memory book and a memoir?

A memoir is one person’s account. A family memory book gathers many voices, so the same event is told by the people who were there, often differently. That is what makes it worth reading at the table.

Can I include voice recordings in a printed book?

Yes. Story Grove prints a QR code on the page for any story that was recorded aloud; scanning it plays the storyteller’s own voice.
